Iris Shalev - Creative and cosmetic translations between English and Dutch

Welcome to my website!

My name is Iris Shalev; I am a qualified, experienced and enthusiastic freelance translator of English into Dutch and vice versa. I specialise mainly in (marketing) translations in the beauty and cosmetics, health and wellness field. Marketing texts often require a more creative than literal approach, and attention to detail. That's why I deliver 'creative and cosmetic' translations!

About me
I was born in 1974 in the Netherlands
and lived there for 29 years. I studied English language and literature (specialising in translation) at Utrecht University. After my university graduation in 2003, I immigrated to Israel,
and I have lived there since in a kibbutz near Rehovot with my husband and, more recently, our two bilingual little boys. I have an Israeli identity card, but Dutch nationality.

My native language is Dutch, and after much study and practice I consider myself near-native in English. I speak good Hebrew, but not yet good enough to translate from. I have learned Spanish, French and German in the past, but they have gone a bit rusty from lack of use... I enjoy reading and writing in several languages, and I have a good eye for detail and spelling.

Because of my working experience in the health and cosmetics field, I specialise mainly in health and cosmetics (marketing) texts, although I also have translation experience in other fields, such as: tourism, consumer electronics, design furniture, popular science and software localisation. My translation experience includes both translating and proofreading, mostly from English to Dutch but also vice versa. I have translated texts, websites, brochures, software strings and applications.

Software: I work with Windows XP and Microsoft Office 2003, and I own licenses for the CAT-tools Trados Studion 2009 and Wordfast, and for the online dictionary and encyclopedia Babylon.

Rates: Usually vary between 0.05 and 0.1 USD/word. For Israel: 50 NIS/250 words (+ VAT).

Payment: Via bank transfer, Paypal or Moneybookers.
